The Difference Between Conservatives And Progressives

The Welfare State

Conservatives – Progressives’ support of a massive welfare state, although philanthropic and compassionate, will lead to a culture of dependency and is simply economically insolvent. While a safety net should be provided for those truly in need, we must rein in the massive waste and fraud in our welfare system.

Progressives - Conservatives want poor children to starve to death.

The Second Amendment

Conservatives - The right to bear arms is one of the most important and cherished rights provided to us by the Constitution. While the left genuinely wishes to see less gun violence, no evidence suggests that stricter gun control will achieve that result. Law-abiding citizens should have the right to defend themselves and their families.

Progressives - The NRA has a joyous celebration every time there is a mass shooting at an American school.

Abortion

Conservatives - Pro-choice advocates truly believe in a woman's right to choose. They do not relish the idea of infanticide but we must create a culture that places value on the sanctity of human life and protects the most vulnerable and innocent among us.

Progressives - Conservatives hate women and want back alley, coat-hanger abortions. 

Pop-culture

Conservatives- The guy in the Che Guevara T-shirt is historically ignorant and probably saw one of his favorite celebrities wearing the same shirt and thinks it's cool.

Progressives - The guy in the Dukes of Hazard T-shirt is a racist redneck.

Healthcare

Conservatives - The progressive dream of single-payer, government run healthcare is based on a noble desire to ensure that all Americans have access to affordable, quality healthcare. Government run healthcare however is as bad an idea as government run anything and will destroy the best healthcare system in the world.

Progressives - Conservatives want poor people to die in the streets.

Border Security

Conservatives - Anyone can appreciate the fact that someone would seek more opportunity and a better life for themselves and their families.  We are a nation of immigrants but we all also a nation of laws. With a growing threat of terror, a growing strain on our welfare system and a still shaky economy, a sovereign nation cannot have an unrestricted open border.

Progressives - Conservatives hate Latinos.

Some might argue that those in power have a different, less altruistic agenda when it comes to some of these issues but the average American progressive, many of whom are our friends and loved ones has noble intentions.

It is important that the GOP not abandon conservative principles in an attempt to appear more compassionate but they do need to change the perceived image. Free-market capitalism has lifted more people from poverty and starvation than any system the world has ever known. That is a story that must be properly conveyed. Conservatism is compassion.
