Rapper XXXTentacion released a controversial video for his singles, “Look at Me” and “Riot,” on Tuesday, which featured the hanging of a young white child.

This rapper’s video featuring a hanged white child is going viral for all the wrong reasons
The video, obviously, has received a bit of attention — but not for the reasons you might be thinking.

What you need to know about this video before discussing it with your friends

  • The video is rough. It’s a hard watch. Not only does it feature violence against a child, but it’s rife with sexual innuendo and assault.
  • XXXTentacion is also hanged in the video.
  • XXXTentacion’s aim for the video was to speak about racial injustices. The rapper references Emmett Till, Philando Castile, the Charlottesville rally, and Rodney King — however, with his recent history, the message may have been lost.
  • In the video, the rapper said, “Murder is murder, whether you’re black or white. You should always feel free to voice your opinion but to act out on these irrational thoughts in any way, shape, or form is disgusting.”

XXXTentacion’s history

The 19-year-old rapper was accused of perpetrating disturbing domestic abuse against a former girlfriend in 2016. The charges stemming from the incident included aggravated battery of a pregnant woman, domestic battery by strangulation, false imprisonment, and witness-tampering.
He was jailed in January as a result of the woman’s accusations and released in March.
