“As you’re watching the ball drop at Times Square on New Year’s Eve on TV, our brand-new animated digital billboard message of freedom will be playing right there,” Ham said Tuesday on his Facebook page. “The board’s message is meant to confront and challenge people about threats to America’s freedom of religion and freedom of speech — and publicly and unashamedly stand for the gospel message that the Cross (shown on the board) represents.”
The digital ad reads, “To all our intolerant liberal friends: Thank God for Freedom” — a message that is “succinct yet memorable” due to the limited space a digital billboard affords, the group said.
Ham and his organization hope that the message drives home the notion that there are people in society who are intolerant against the Christian message, that there is no neutral position when it comes to Christ and that true freedom can only be found in Jesus.
The campaign is based on Bible verses that address freedom, according to a press release.
Among those verses are Romans 3:23, which reads, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” and Romans 6:6, which reads, “For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin.”
The billboard went up Tuesday in New York City’s Times Square, where it will be on display when scores of people flock there to celebrate New Year’s Eve. The message will also be shown in other cities across the nation. Find out more here.
